How much does a South Asian wedding cost in the GTA in 2026?

A South Asian wedding in the GTA in 2026 will run you between $40,000 and $250,000 depending on guest count, venue tier, and how many ceremonies you cover. Here's where each dollar actually goes — based on real vendors listed on Melaa, real packages we've seen quoted, and real receipts couples have shared.

01The short answer (one sentence)

For a 300-guest GTA South Asian wedding with two-day events (Mehndi + Reception), expect $80,000–$140,000 all-in. For 500+ guests with three days (Mehndi + Ceremony + Reception), expect $130,000–$220,000. For luxury hotel reception only, add $40K+.

02Where the money goes — 50% rule

Roughly half of the budget goes to two line items: venue and catering. The remaining 50% spreads across decor, photography, attire, jewellery, DJ, mehndi, and a hundred small things. Don't let the small things compound — every $200 favour-box add-on at 300 guests is $60K right there.

A reasonable percentage breakdown for a $100,000 wedding:
• Venue (incl. ceremony + reception): 25-30%
• Catering (300 guests): 20-25%
• Decor + florals: 12-15%
• Photography + videography: 10-12%
• Bridal wear + jewellery: 8-12%
• DJ + entertainment + baraat: 4-6%
• Mehndi + makeup + hair: 3-5%
• Invitations + favours: 2-3%
• Misc (transport, accommodation): 3-5%

04Why GTA is cheaper than Vancouver and NYC

The Greater Toronto Area has the highest density of South Asian wedding vendors per capita in North America — Brampton alone has more weddings per square kilometer than any city outside India. More vendors = more competition = better prices. Comparable Indian weddings in Vancouver run 20-30% higher; NYC and SF, 40-60% higher.

The trade-off: GTA peak season (May–October weekends) books out 12-18 months ahead. If you can do a Friday or Sunday in October-November, you save 15-25% on venue and decor.

05Three places people overspend

1. Decor. It photographs well, so couples chase it. A $30K mandap looks 95% like an $18K mandap on Instagram. Get a mood board, take three quotes, and stop there.

2. Favour boxes. They get thrown out. $40 per box × 300 guests = $12,000 in the trash. A $15 box does the same job.

3. Bigger guest list. Every additional 50 guests = ~$10,000 in venue, catering, decor, favours, and stationery. The single fastest cost cut: aggressive list discipline.

06Three places people underspend

1. Photography. It's the only line item you keep after the day ends. Don't go below $5,000 for a 10-hour wedding with 300 guests.

2. Videography. A bad highlight film with poor audio is unwatchable. A good one is the wedding gift you give yourselves for the next 30 years.

3. Priest / officiant time. Cheaping out here means a rushed ceremony, mispronounced names, or worse — the priest reading the wrong family lineage. Pay for someone who meets you a week before.

§ Frequently asked

What's the cheapest a South Asian wedding can be in the GTA?

For 100 guests, a community-hall ceremony, and a basic outside caterer, you can do it for $25,000–$35,000. The compromise: limited venue choice, smaller decor, and a 1-photographer 4-hour package. Possible, but fewer vendors will work at this price.

How much does a 500-guest reception cost?

Expect $80,000–$130,000 for the reception alone — venue ($30-50K) + catering ($35-75K at $70-150/head) + decor ($20-40K) + DJ + photography. Add a Mehndi night and Anand Karaj/Nikah day to reach $150-220K total.

Should we book a banquet hall or a hotel ballroom?

Banquet halls (like in Brampton or Mississauga) are 30-50% cheaper, allow outside catering (often required for halal or Jain), and are designed for South Asian weddings. Hotels (Four Seasons, Ritz) are premium tier — better for smaller, luxury receptions, but force in-house catering at high rates.

Is it cheaper to book vendors as a package?

Sometimes. A photo+video package from one studio can save 10-15% vs separate bookings. A decor company that handles ceremony AND reception is usually 20% cheaper than two separate vendors. But never package quality — if the photographer is great and the videographer in the same studio is mediocre, book separately.

How early should we start budgeting?

12-18 months out. The first decision is total budget; the second is guest count; the third is venue. Get those three right and everything else falls into place. Vendors quote based on guest count and date — without those, you can't get real numbers.
